Obituary: Christos L. Tournas, 89

 Leominster, MA - Christos L. Tournas, 89, a long-time Dracut resident, died peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017 in Leominster. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna T. (Landry) Tournas with whom he had shared 33 years of marriage, until her passing in 1985.

Born in Dracut on November 15, 1927, Christos was a son to the late Jane (Glekas) and Louis Tournas, both originally of Greece. After honorably serving in the US Army, and finishing school, he dedicated his own career to education, working as a Principal within the Chelmsford school system for over 35 years.

Christos was an active member of his community, serving as a board member and former President of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, as well as on their Board of Trustees. He also held membership within the Ancient York Masonic Lodge of Lowell and was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Ancient Scottish Rite. In his spare time, Christos greatly enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Louis A. Tournas of Lowell, James C. Tournas and his wife Rita of Leominster, and Joan A. Tournas also of Leominster; grandchildren, Julianna and Elizabeth Tournas, both of Leominster; a sister, Helen Glekas of Annandale, VA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Along with his wife, Anna, Christos was predeceased by his siblings, Ann Davis and Arthur Tournas; as well as long-time companion, Lillian Economopoulos of Lowell

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on TUESDAY, January 10, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. His funeral service will directly follow calling hours at 11 a.m. Burial will be held subsequently at Westlawn Cemetery also in Lowell. In addition to flowers, donations may be made in Christos’s honor to the Transfiguration Church, 25 Father John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA 01854.
