On December 6th, the Dracut High School Peer Mentors, with advisor Mr. Trevor Blanchet and Vice-Principal Phil Coddaire, attended the first Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness held at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.

More than 4,500 local students and chaperones heard the message of the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation: Drug Free is Up to Me. Attendees were first entertained by DJs from local hip-hop radio station 94.5 and then were introduced to James Wahlberg, the producer of the film "If Only," which focuses on the subject of teen opioidabuse.

After viewing the film, students heard the heartbreaking stories of family members who lost loved ones as a result of opioid use. Featured speakers included former Patriots players Troy Brown and Matt Light as well as former Major League Baseball player and Peabody High School standout Jeff Allison.

This Summit was one of many activities planned by the Dracut High School Peer Mentors, whose activities have brought increased awareness of the dangers of drug abuse to the students of Dracut High School.
