VIDEO: Middlemiss Family, Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation Honor Dracut Police For Service, Compassion

Nov 16, 2016 06:59PM ● By Bill Gilman

Dracut Police Det. Megan Pike receives a medal from the Middeness family.

Since the death of their son, Joseph, in 2013, Scott and Kate Middlemiss have worked tirelessly to keep his memory alive and expand his legacy through the "Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation."
Part of the mission of the foundation is to spread awareness of childhood heart conditions, such as the cardiamyopathy that claimed Joseph's life at just six years old. They also work to  provide financial, social and emotional assistance to families impacted by conditions.
But the second part of the foundation is to encourage, document and reward random acts of kindness and generosity locally and globally, in the hopes making their community and world a better place.
Such was their mission Tuesday night at the Board of Selectmen's meeting. The Middlemiss Family honored the Dracut Police Department, and specifically Det. Megan Pike, for the kindness they showed the family over the past three years. According to Kate, Det. Pike was one of the first people to reach out to the family immediately following Joseph's death.
On hand, along with Kate and Scott, were their children, Jack and Grace.
