Chelmsford, MA - Marcel H. Gregoire, 78, a resident of Chelmsford Crossing, died Sunday, November 6th at Lowell General Hospital, Lowell. 

Mr. Gregoire was born in Dracut, MA on August 14, 1938, a son of the late Mary Jane (Lessard) and Arthur Ernest Gregoire. He attended St. Joseph's High School in Lowell and graduated from Marist Prep in Esopus, NY. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Merrimack College, a Masters of Science Degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT. 

As a member of the US Peace Corps, where he served in the Philippines from 1961-1963, Mr. Gregoire taught Biology, Chemistry and English at Bikol State College in Legazpi City. While there, he was active in community development work in the village of Malilipot province of Albay, where he served his tour year tour of duty.

He was a longtime resident of North Andover where he was a tenured Associate Professor of Biology at Merrimack College. While a faculty member at Merrimack College, he served as chair of the Biology Department as President of the Faculty Senate and was a member of several other campus wide communities that dealt with faculty tenure and student academic issues. He also served as Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences. Upon retirement, Merrimack College named him professor Emeritus and granted him the outstanding Teacher of the year award. 

He is survived by his sister, Cecile Goddu of Dracut, MA; a nephew, Daniel Goddu of Deering, NH and nieces, Darlene Hunsinger of Ridgecrest, CA and Dianna Dwinell of Tewksbury, MA.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut, MA, with a Catholic funeral service to follow.
