George J. Spenard obituary


George J. Spenard, 90, died peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at D'Youville Center for Advanced Therepy. He was the beloved husband of Jessie M. (LaPierre) Spenard, with whom he spent 64 loving years of marriage.

Born in Lowell on June 11, 1926, he was a son of the late William and Evelina (Michel) Spenard. Upon graduating high school, George went on to proudly serve his country as a member of the US Navy during both WWII and the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he spent his career working as a Lowell Fire Fighter for 20 years, and later served on the Lowell Retired Fire Fighter's Committee for several years. 

George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His most cherished memories were spent surrounded by his loving family, particularly when he would tell them stories about his life. He will always be remembered by all those that knew him for his quick smile, generous heart and spirit, and his desire to help people. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his four children, Evelyn Holzapfel and her husband Michael, John Spenard, Paula Masson and her husband Steve, and Denise Hulse and her husband James; 8 grandchildren, Sara (O'Connor) Montanari and her husband Robert, Aaron O'Connor and his wife Stefanie, Shane O'Connor, Caitlin (O'Connor) Markham and her husband Matthew, Peter Masson and his husband Kevin Jackson, Melissa (Masson) Larose and her husband Guy, Jael (Hulse) McCann and her husband Michael, and Jocelyn (Hulse) Small and her husband Nathan; seven great grandchildren, Claire and Ryan Montanari, Tessa O'Connor, Ruby and Jasmine Markham, Gracey and Elinor Larose. As well as several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will take place from the Dracut Funeral Home on Friday, October 21st at 10:30 a.m., with his Funeral Mass directly following at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rita's Parish, Lowell, MA. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s name to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
