Middies, Gryphons Roundup: Dracut Boys Upset Tewksbury, GLT Girls 'Beat' Shawsheen, 2-2

Dracut 2 Tewksbury 1

Dracut High jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and held on to upset Tewksbury, 2-1.
Senior forward Casey Rivera scored in the 5th minute, assisted by junior midfielder Joe Donnelly. 
Senior defender Sean Nugent  doubled the lead with a goal in 14th minute, assisted by junior midfielder Kyle Hould.
Tewksbury (7-5-1) cut the lead in half with a second-half goal by Brandon Alves, assisted by Ameen Kalkhoran, in the 78th minute.
The key for the Middies was the play of their defense, which shut down Kalkhoran (6 goals previous 2 games). Junior Josh Desrochers also played well for the Dracut.

Dracut 4 Lawrence 2

Earlier in the week, Dracut raced past Lawrence, 4-2.
Freshman Brendan Davis led the Middies with a pair of goals in the second half to put the game away.
Junior midfielder Jon Arcila (assisted by sophomore midfielder James Fazio) gave Dracut a 1-0 lead but Lawrence tied the game heading into halftime. 
Dracut regained the lead in the second half on a goal by Fred Kazalski in 46th minute, assisted by junior midfielder Kyle Hould. Kazalski then assisted on Davis' first goal, giving the Middies a 3-1 lead.
Sophomore midfield Edwin Bonilla also played well for Dracut

Gr. Lowell 1, Shawsheen 0

Greater Lowell Tech improved to 6-6-2 with an upset win over Shawsheen Tech.

Elerson Roesler had the game-winning goal for Greater Lowell.Keeper Ian Kirumira earned the shutout with 10 saves.

Carlos Niclau (assist), Jimmy Raposo, Luiz Desouza, Luis Minikowki and Jared Marchand also had outstanding games for Greater Lowell, which improved its chances for a State Tournament berth with the win.

Dracut 9 ,Lawrence 0

This one was easy for Dracut, as the Middies clobbered Lawrence. 

Everyone got into the act for DHS, as Julia Tellier, Kayla Gooch, Rachel Santos, Emma Moynihan, Taylor Roberts, Amanda Bakas, Macy Hudzik, Sam Havel and Athena Durkin each scored single goals.

Keeper Brooke Boemeester made one save to earn the shutout.

Gr. Lowell 2, Shawsheen 2

If there was ever a victory in a tie, this might be the case.

Shawsheen Tech (7-7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes and looked headed to a rout against a Gryphons team that came in at 1-11-0.

But Greater Lowell battled back, shut down the Rams' potent attack and rallied or a 2-2 tie.

Rikiah Seid had one of the goals for Greater Lowell,  assisted by Elizabeth Ashton. Andrea Guerrero notched the tying goal on a corner kick with under five minutes left to play.

Macy Lapan and Desteny Durham had outstanding games for Greater Lowell, as did Shayla Inglis, Hallie Bosia and Victoria Rosado.


Lawrence 3, Dracut 0

Lawrence was too strong for Dracut in a straight set win. Set scores were The Middies were 25-10, 25-18, and 25-20.

Erin McMeniman had 7 kills, 8 service points and 10 digs to lead the Middies. , McKenzie Snowdon added 5 kills and 5 service points). Sabrina Morse also had an excellent game.
