Russell W. “Rusty” Huebner, age 75, of Wilmington, MA and Limerick, ME, died peacefully on October 15, 2016, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Rusty was born in Winchester; he was raised and educated in Stoneham, Ma. and a graduate of Stoneham High School. Rusty was an outstanding high school and college athlete. He played baseball and hockey throughout his school years.

Rusty went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in education from Salem State College and began his teaching career in Norwich, Connecticut. Rusty returned home to Stoneham and took a teaching position in the Stoneham public school system. Rusty had a passion for education; he enjoyed teaching and made quite an impression on many of his students throughout the years.

Rusty then went to work at Carroll Engineers, Inc. in Ballardvale, Ma. He worked as a Civil Engineer for his Uncle Ed and cousin Ted’s family run engineering business. Following many years of hard work and dedication to the company, Rusty retired.

Rusty married his high school sweetheart Judy Behenna in 1962. After spending a few early years in Norwich, Ct., the couple returned home and settled in Wilmington where they raised four great kids; Paul, Jill, Kim and Todd. Rusty worked hard for his family, he was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Rusty looked forward to attending all of his grandchildren’s events and took pride and joy in all of their accomplishments.

Rusty enjoyed spending as much time as he could at the family home in Limerick, Maine on Lake Sokokis. It was here that he spent his time enjoying family, the lake, watching and feeding the birds, and gardening. He looked forward to having his family for cookouts, playing cards, and fishing.

Always an athlete at heart, Rusty enjoyed following all Boston sports. His favorite was the Red Sox and never missed watching or listening to a game.

Rusty was a simple, dedicated, patient, hard working all around great guy. He will be sorely missed by everyone who was fortunate to have known him.

Rusty was the beloved husband of the late Judith A. (Behenna) Huebner, devoted father of Paul C. Huebner of Dracut,Ma, Jill A. Kehoe of Saco, ME, Kim A. McNeil & husband Chris of Groton, Ma and the late Todd S. Huebner. Loving “Grampie” of Jonathan, Nicole, and Kelsey Kehoe, Joshua and Janelle McNeil and Tyler Huebner. Dear son of the late Phyllis Potter, brother of Beverly Rees & husband John of Wilmington, Ma, uncle of Robin Rees Tyrie of Wilmington, Ma and Tom Rees of Tampa Florida, brother-in-law of Barbara McLaughlin of Stoneham, Ma. and dear father in law of Frank Kehoe of Limerick, ME. Rusty is also survived by many close cousins including Ted Carroll of Andover, Ma, Nancy Carroll of Amesbury, Ma and Janice Romanelli of Wilmington, Ma. Rusty also leaves many close friends

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service on Friday, October 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers donations in Russell’s memory may be made to a Charity of One’s Choice.
