Robert J. Demers obituary
Born in Washington, Vermont on September 20, 1941, he was a son of the late Willie Joseph and Alice Noella (Tousignant) Demers. Bob proudly served in the United States Navy from May of 1960 through March of 1964. He served aboard the USS Little Rock CLG-4, now a museum located on Lake Erie in Buffalo, NY, which toured the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, Black Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. He later worked for RCA, GE, and Martin Marietta for 30 years, all in the same location. After his retirement from Martin Marietta, he worked part-time for 17 years at AG Hardware in Lowell.
Bob held Life Membership in the Dracut American Legion Post 315, Dracut Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9307, Franco-American Veterans Post 4, USS Littlle Rock CLG-4 Association, and the United Sates Navy Cruiser Sailors Association. He greatly enjoyed gardening and traveling in his spare time, and was known as a handyman who could fix everything. Everyone that knew him loved him immensely.
Along with his wife, Judith, Bob is survived and will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Denise Merkh and her husband Jim of Dracut, and Cheryl Arsenault and her husband Kevin of Dracut; three grandchildren, Scott Garcia, Sara Arsenault, and Tim Arsenault, all of Dracut; six brothers-in-law, Roland Demers of Dracut, Richard Mitchell of Illinois, David Ayotte and his companion Ellen of Lowell, Donald Ayotte and his wife Pam of Lowell, Danny Ayotte of Lowell, and Dale Ayotte and his companion Bambie of Lowell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bob was the last of ten children, brothers, Clement and Lawrence Demers, and sisters, Beatrice Frechette, Claire Bellefuelle, Cecile (Gendron) Scheys, Florence London, Rita (Demers) Demers, Mary Allen, and Jeanne Mitchell.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on TUESDAY, October 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave, Dracut. Robert's service will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, October 12, at 9 a.m. with his Funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. in St. Marguerite D'Youville Church, Dracut. Burial will be afterwards at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chelmsford.
