Obituary: Evan L. Caraganis, 93

 CHELMSFORD -- Mr. Evan L. Caraganis, 93, passed away on Wednesday September 28th with his family by his side.

Born May 25, 1923 in Dracut, Massachusetts, a son of the late Louis and Christina (Sigalos) Caraganis, the last of eight children. Loving husband of fifty-nine years to his wife, Anastasia (Beskalo) Caraganis whom he lost on March 20, 2014.

Evan was educated through the Dracut schools graduating in 1940 from Dracut High School. He along with his three brothers joined the Army during World War II and served their country, with all four brothers returning home safely.

Upon his return, Evan signed up as a reserve for the National Guard. He worked at Fort Devens on the roads and grounds crew for many years. While working at Fort Devens, he met his wife, Anastasia whom he married in 1955. He later went on to work at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford where he was the foreman for aircraft refueling. He retired in 1974.

A loving family man, he loved being with his wife, and his loving daughter, Leigh Ann.

Evan was pre-deceased by his brothers, Brigadier General Costas Caraganis, Peter Caraganis, Colonel Nicholas Caraganis, George Caraganis and Arthur Caraganis. Also his two sisters, Kathleen Caraganis and Jean Nowlin.

Evan is survived by his daughter, Leigh Ann Scaglione and her husband, Joe, two step grandchildren, Christy Hoffman and her husband, Michael, and Ken Scaglione; also two step great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Monday, October 3rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. His funeral service will be on Tuesday morning at 9:00 am at the funeral home followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Chelmsford. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial donations may be made in his memory to
