Papageorgiou obit

DRACUT/LOUKOMI, GREECE -- George N. Papageorgiou, age 81, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. For fifty years, he was the beloved husband of Konstantinia "Dina" (Kotoula) Papageorgiou.

George was born in Loukomi, Greece on April 4, 1935, a son of the late Rev. Nikolaos Papageorgiou and Evgenia (Papakosta) Papageorgiou. He currently resided in Loukomi Kozanis, Greece and also spent part of the year in Florida and Dracut.

Prior to his retirement, he was a self employed general contractor and carpenter in the Lowell area from 1958 until his retirement in 2005.

George enjoyed the game of soccer, a sport he played his whole life. He was very talented and a perfectionist with his carpentry skills. He was hard working, honest, very compassionate and would always go out of his way to help his family in friends.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Lowell General Hospital oncology department for the care given to George during his time with them. We would also like to thank the doctors and staff of Lowell General Hospital, Main Campus.

Besides his wife, Dina, he is survived by his children, Nicholas Papageorgiou and his wife, Ellen of Dracut, and Eugenia "Gina" Tzikas and her husband, Dr. Thomas Tzikas of Delray Beach, FL; a sister, Cleo Dalkouras of Brockton; five grandchildren, George, Voula, Leah, Iliana and Constantina; also many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Penelope Hamourgas, Niki Katsikas and Eleni Kalfopoulos.

Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Wednesday, September 21, from 5 until 7 pm. Funeral services and interment will take place in Loukomi, Greece later this week. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church, 1160 Mammoth Rd., Dracut, MA 01826.
